Expansion Process

1. Potential expansion candidate has initial discussion with League Office to express interest. Candidate signs a non-disclosure agreement prior to receiving an Expansion Package.

2. Candidate submits fully completed Expansion Application and deposit of $50,000.00 (CDN) to the League. The League will not entertain or engage in further discussions with candidate without the Application and deposit having been submitted. The ownership or ownership group must be in place prior to submitting the application, and not pending.

3. League Office does due diligence on expansion candidate within 14 days of receipt of Application and deposit. League will inform the candidate if the application meets the League’s criteria for team ownership. Both parties may cancel the agreement at this point, and the deposit will be refunded.

4. The applicant begins a 45-day period to obtain a lease at a suitable arena and to finalize the ownership structure of the entity that will operate as the expansion team. League visits City and venue to determine if City will support and NBLC club and approve venue.

5. By the end of the 45-day period the applicant shall submit a signed arena lease and Articles of Incorporation to the League. The NBL Canada Board votes to ratify the expansion club’s inclusion into the League. After this point if the club is approved the deposit is no longer refundable.

6. The remainder of the expansion fee is due upon approval.
