A record crowd were treated to a victory by the home team at the ScotiaBank Centre on Thursday.
The Halifax Hurricanes defeated the Saint John Riptide 102-93 before 3,090 enthusiastic fans, the most to witness a game in team history.
Billy White (25 points, 14 rebounds) and Mike Poole (22 points, 10 boards) each had double-doubles to help the 'Canes avenge a loss to the Riptide in Saint John last Sunday.
Riptide players Gabe Freeman (29 points), Darin Mency (25 points) and Horace Wormley (24 points) combined to score 78 points, but it wasn't enough for Saint John to win its fourth straight contest.
Halifax trailed 49-44 at halftime before cutting the lead to 69-67 after three quarters. The Hurricanes dominated in both points in the paint (60-36) and bench scoring (25-3), while enjoying a 54-39 edge on the glass.
The Hurricanes (22-6) extend their lead in the Atlantic standings to 6.5 games over Saint John (15-12), who remain solidly in second place, 4.0 games in front of the Island Storm (9-14).
The Riptide return to action when they visit Cape Breton on Saturday. Halifax's next game is Sunday, in Charlottetown against the Storm.
