Released: May 12, 2017
By: London Lightning Media

The London Lightning took on their familiar rivals, the Windsor Express, in the first game of their best-of-7 series, winning their first game of the series by a score of 109-107.

Garrett Williamson led the way for the Lightning in the first quarter, coming out to a flying start, giving London an early lead. London put up 29 points in the quarter, giving them control for the rest of the half.

“Crazy game. We stayed poised for the most part and were able to execute down the stretch but we can definitely play better and we can definitely be better.” said head coach Kyle Julius.

Windsor kept pushing London in the second quarter, but London was up to the task. Despite Windsor’s Tony Bennett heating up beyond the arc, London continued to play a consistent game, allowing them to head into the dressing room with a 57-49 lead at the half.

Windsor caught fire to open the third, with Juan Pattillo giving the Express a 10 point lead mid way through the quarter. London battled back, managing to keep the score within reach as they went into a decisive final quarter.

Royce White stepped up his game, leading London to a slight edge with the clock ticking down. Two key stops from the Lightning allowed them to come away with the narrow 109-107 victory.

Garrett Williamson led the way for the Bolts with 25 points. Ryan Anderson recorded a double-double with 22 points and 14 rebounds.

“We’re in the way of each other’s goals. Right now, there’s nothing to like about the other team. We’ve got to do a better job of keeping the other team down when we have them down, we can’t give them life. Lapses like that give them confidence and we just need to do a better job at executing the game plan.” said Anderson.

Royce White accomplished the same feat with 21 points and 14 rebounds.

Former Bolt Tony Bennett led Windsor with 20 points.

Game 2 between these teams will be played in London at Budweiser Gardens on Sunday,  May 14th at 3pm. Tickets are available online or at the Budweiser Gardens box office.
