Renaldo Major  also spent time with NBA’s Golden State Warriors

(Moncton, New Brunswick – September 6, 2017) Moncton Magic General Manager of Player Operations and Head Coach Joe Salerno announced today that the team has come to terms with former NBA D-League All-time leading scorer Renaldo Major.

Major, a 6’7” small forward from Chicago, IL, has his name etched all over the D-League’s All-time record books. He is among All-time league leaders in multiple categories including, games played with 400 (1st), points scored, 5,058 (1st), and total rebounds with 1,628 (4th) just to name a few.  The Fresno State product that spent eight seasons in the D-League also had a stint with the NBA’s Golden State Warriors in 2007, along with playing professionally in other countries such as Italy and Finland.

“He is true veteran. He has played at some of the highest levels in the world, for a very long time, and played there effectively” commented Salerno. “Bringing in mature veteran guys that know how to play at a high level is something we wanted to do this season, and I can’t think of many guys who fit that description better then Renaldo.”

Major, who was known many places as a fan favourite, won a D-League Championship in 2007. He is also a former League Defensive Player of the Year, as well as the recipient of the 2015 NBA Development League’s Jason Collier Sportsmanship Award. The award honours the player who best represents the ideals of character and conduct on and off the court.

After a lengthy time hovering all over NBA radars, Major felt it was time for a change.

“He understands the D-league is about developing younger players, but he knows he can still be an impact player at a high level. This is what drew him to the NBL Canada” stated Salerno.  “I couldn’t agree with him more. He is a true pro. He takes care of his body, sticks to a regimented training schedule in the off season. This has allowed him to play the game in the leagues he has for such a long period of time.  He has a very high basketball IQ, and is a high character guy. His positive energy will be a welcome addition to our locker room this season.”

Major will land in Moncton in late October, where he will join the rest of the Magic roster when the team kicks off its inaugural training camp on November 1st at Crandall University.
