Island Storm partners with Charlottetown Police to reward Good Samaritans

Released: March 07, 2016
By: Island Storm Media

The Island Storm and Charlottetown Police services has agreed to a partnership that will see officers handing out tickets, but not for speeding.

The next time a city police officer comes across a deserving citizen they could be the recipient of a free Storm ticket.

“We are pleased to be partnering with the Storm in this new community initiative and we look forward to working with the team on this worthwhile project,” said Deputy Police Chief Gary McGuigan.

“We hope that we can make someone’s day a little brighter when they need it as a result of this partnership.”

There are no set criteria’s for scoring a free ticket; they could be given out to a Good Samaritan, the victim of a crime, someone who has been involved in a car accident. The list goes on and on.

For the Storm, finding a way to encourage good behavior and help those in need was a no-brainer.

“As a community-based organization, it’s important we do everything in our power to connect with all members of society,” said Brett Poirier, the team’s marketing director.

“More often than not good deeds go unrewarded, this is an opportunity for our team and the city police to show appreciation to those individuals. On the other hand, we all hear stories about people who have been in really challenging situations, and are just looking for something to smile about. My hope is that we’re able to make someone’s bad day a whole lot better.”

The program will roll out this week, with the first round of tickets being given out for team’s next home game on Thursday, March 17 at 7 p.m.
